Consists primarily of the correspondence of Wyndham Robertson. Letters written before the Civil War concern his experiences as a student at the College of William and Mary, family news, Southern ante-bellum society, his estate at Abingdon, Va., and land speculation in Arkansas. Wartime letters concern the election of 1860, the secession crisis, and the effect of the war on Robertson's family. Postwar letters discuss Robertson's business interest in the Buena Vista Plaster Company, Virginia history, and his book Descendants of Pocahontas (1858?). Also, contain papers of the Loyal Company of Virginia including land surveys, receipts, land grants, and account books for land purchased in Virginia (reels 6 and 7); Roster of Officers and Members of R.E. Lee Camp No. 1, 1913 (reel 5); letters, 1823-1872, of John Robertson concerning national politics and life in Washington, D.C. (reel 6); account books, 1849 and 1851, of Wyndham Robertson (reel 7); notes on the Robertson family (reel 7); commonplace book, 1780-1821, of William Robertson containing lines of verse (reel 7); diary, 1771, of William Robertson kept in England and Scotland (reel 7); correspondence and will of Francis Smith (of Washington County, Va.) (reel 7); account book, 1807-1808, of Smith & Preston at Seven Mile Ford, Smyth County, Va. (reel 7); and deeds for land in Washington County, Va. (reel 7).
